Cafe 5 @ SFMOMA
The fifth-floor cafe at the newly remodeled SFMOMA provides a modernist respite from floor after floor of pop art, photography, abstract paintings and the sheer breadth of the impressive Fisher Collection. Adjacent to the rooftop Sculpture Garden, the cafe offers up a mix of classic Californian cuisine, using fresh local ingredients, as well as a spirits from Bay Area craft breweries.
chef Peter erickson
Peter started his restaurant career waiting tables in Washington, D.C. while studying at George Washington University. He quickly decided that he liked restaurant work more than his field of study. After moving back to California, he was fortunate to be offered a position as a line cook. As rough as those first few weeks were, it was a very satisfying experience. The Chef and Sous Chef encouraged him to attend culinary school, so he moved to San Francisco to attend the California Culinary Academy. Since then, Peter has worked all over the Bay Area. A stint at Chez Panisse was where he really learned about seasonality and simplicity, informing his own tastes when opening a business in 2003. Peter ran 1550 Hyde for a number of years before working at Plate Shop in Sausalito and Wingtip, prior to joining McCalls.
