Anna is one of Northern California’s preeminent wedding experts. During her decades in the business, Anna has coordinated thousands of weddings, mastering the art of the perfect day.
Anna relishes the intimacy of weddings. Her favorite part? “Couples who are really, really in love with each other. You just know. They glow.” Every couple is unique, so approaching each wedding with a fresh eye is important. “I love meeting a couple and listening to their vision, and then standing there on the day, knowing that what we created is exactly what everyone envisioned.”
Couples come to Anna for help with menu, design, décor, and venue choice, and for anything McCalls doesn’t provide in-house she pulls from an extensive list of preferred vendors. “There are so many options now: hundreds and hundreds of linen and chair options. It’s hard to choose.” Anna listens to each couple’s wish list, drawing out details about their individual style, hobbies, and personal taste. Her deep experience helps couples avoid mistakes and she loves the creative challenge: “There isn’t anything anyone can suggest that we can’t respond to beautifully.” Anna will do whatever it takes to make a wedding a success—even getting ordained to perform the ceremony herself when a friend’s officiate fell ill.
“Even the coolest people get stressed planning a wedding,” she says. “We do a really good job of calming their stress and encouraging them to make it about the two of them. We’re like their insurance that everything goes well.”
Anna is actively involved in the Bay Area Wedding Network and the International Special Events Society. She began her career 30 years ago, working at hotels and resorts in Minneapolis, San Diego and Hawaii, before joining the McCalls family in 1997. For her, there is no better place to do this job. “McCalls is an easy product to sell because it really is the best,” she says. “If I had to go up against McCalls I wouldn’t enjoy my job so much. I know the food is fantastic and the service is better than anywhere. There is nobody who can compete.”
When she was a young girl, Hannah dreamed of being either an attorney or a wedding planner. After a part-time job at a law firm while attending UC Berkeley, she remained undecided — until destiny called. In 2004, a friend on the McCalls staffing desk said: “Come work for us while you figure out what else you want to do.” Luckily for us, she decided to stay.
Hannah plans all McCalls-catered weddings at the Legion of Honor and the deYoung Museum, both immensely popular San Francisco venues. She moved into this role after helping McCalls launch our museum café programs. Having an insider’s perspective into these unique venues is key. “It’s important that the caterers and other vendors know what you can and can’t do” — for example, event workers can’t enter the museums until 5:15, leaving only an hour and 15 minutes to set up.
She enjoys the hands-on process of helping couples plan what for many is the most important day of their lives. It’s a personal experience every time. “It’s amazing to see something your client has in their head become a reality, and to see them glowing about how everything came together.” She has earned a reputation as warm, personable partner for couples, going out of her way to leave no detail untended.
Hannah knows that every wedding party is in good hands with McCalls. “It’s phenomenal,” she says: “All the servers really treat every single person like they are the bride, or the mother of the bride. We want everyone who walks through the door to feel like they got the service we’re known for.”
